Leadership Lessons from Principals

The Center is currently conducting a research project to gather leadership lessons from school principals. Areas of specific interest include teacher development, teacher selection, leadership development, change management and climate / culture issues.

The focus of our research is to gather specific best-practices from principals in terms of instructional and organizational leadership. The data collection phase of the project is to take place across three phases. First, research participants are asked to share specific challenges and their methods for overcoming those challenges. Second, partcipants are asked to respond to a number of multiple choice survey items that are geared towards providing comparative data across study participants. Third, data is gathered regarding the school in terms of principal tenure, student achievement and local demographics.

The intent of this study is to generate a better understanding of the skills necessary to have success in leading schools in today's k12 environment.

COMMENTS? If you are a principal and are interested in participating in this study, please email me at swallace@ncfsl.org.
